Film Screenings
Featuring curated films from Khem Animation Film Festival and documentaries, highlighting Black speculative storytelling and culture.
The Joy Lab & Joy Archive Board
Kids, and kids at heart, design imaginative, joyful spaces using various art materials, promoting creativity and self-expression. Additionally, there will be a communal board where attendees can share reflections, affirmations, and joyful memories to foster connection.
Afrofuturism Corner
A space to listen to vinyl, read books, and develop community art. On Friday, the location comes alive with music curated by Abenaavi herself. Showcasing selected artists like Joe Clausell, Ron Trent, Sun Ra, and others identified in King Britt's Blacktronika college course.
Storytelling Time
Dr. James Amemasor shares joyful stories from the NJ Historical Society Archives and his other research. We invite guests to share and record voice messages, contributing to an evolving digital archive.

CALL FOR ART: The Next Narrative: An Immersive Journey Through Black Time
📢 Artists, visionaries, and storytellers—this is your invitation!
The Next Narrative is a groundbreaking, multisensory art installation that reimagines the Black experience through Afrofuturism and the timeless legacy of the Harlem Renaissance. We seek artists who can transport audiences into immersive environments that blend historical memory, speculative design, and sensory storytelling—including nature-inspired elements, curated scents, and spatial audio.
Each salon in this installation serves as a portal into a different dimension of Black past, present, and future. We welcome works across disciplines that explore “Black Time & Joy” nonlinearly, encouraging emotional connection, cultural pride, and visionary thinking.
